Wild & Inspired Reviews from WineAlign
David Lawrason of WineAlign recently gave our Wild & Inspired line some "inspired" reviews and we are excited to share them with you.
A blend of fruit from the Wismer, Lakeview and Short Hills vineyards, this is a mid-weight, tart-edged, dry, almost mineral Niagara riesling. The nose is a bit shy for riesling with lemon/grapefruit, green apple and spice, but there is good flavour intensity. The length is very good to excellent length.
From a single plot within the large Wismer vineyard on the Niagara Escarpment, this pinot has a bit more structure and depth than the partner "Cuvee Wismer". But it is not drinking with the same charm at this point. The nose is lifted and piquancy here with classic sour red cherry, well integrated smoke, spice and vanillin. It is mid-weight, quite firm, grippy and intense. Nicely focused with excellent length, but it needs a year or two.
From two sites within the Wismer Vineyard, this is a mid-weight, pale garnet shaded pinot with a lovely nose of red montmorency cherry/raspberry with finely inlaid oak spice. Nicely textured and balanced with very fine tannin. There is some elegance here. The length is very good to excellent.
Wild Ferment Cabernet Franc 2016, Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula
From the Wingfield plot within the large Wismer site, this has a classic cab franc nose of raspberry, tobacco and fine oak vanillin. It is medium weight, quite elegant with a touch of sour -edged volatility. It is also a bit youthfully tannic and edgy now, so aerate well or give it a couple of years. A good example of Ontario's new confidence with this variety. The length is excellent.

The emerging wine region of Georgian Bay is a unique micro climate. Slightly cooler than the Niagara Peninsula being at a more northerly latitude (45th parallel), a higher altitude +300ft above Lake Ontario, and having a cooler lake effect from the colder body of water of Georgian Bay.
This cool micro climate lends itself to fantastic wines, and as we evolve in our knowledge, our brands will continue to evolve.
Explore the inspiration behind each of our three unique collections.
Georgian Hills Vineyards Wines
After 10 years of learning our vision and goals are now much clearer. By working with nature we now focus on growing only cold hardy winter varieties at our vineyards in Georgian Bay.
Our unique micro climate influences our wines styles making them vibrant, fruit driven, aromatic style white wines and lighter style, fruit driven red wines with delicate tannins and lower alcohol.
Notty Bay is a “winemakers reserve blend” the ultimate local wine that represents the best flavour characteristics of several grape varieties blended together to make an exceptional wine…. all in one glass!
Like the red fox that has used its agility and cunning to adapt to the evolution of the planet over hundreds of thousands of years, so too have grape growers and winemakers evolved their practices to adapt to colder climate regions. By developing cold hardy grape varieties that flourish within the moderating “lake effect’ of Nottawasaga Bay, we can now create distinct, elegant, vibrant cool climate wines… like no other!
The Wild & Inspired wine series is a commitment to making exceptional natural wild ferment wines at Georgian Hills winery from grapes grown and hand harvested at select vineyard sites in the Niagara Peninsula wine region.
Wild & Inspired wines tell a story of terroir; a reflection of soil, climate and the passion and creativity of the people that grow the grapes and make the wines.
